Salt and Light Ministry has more than 260 children enrolled in the Education Program for 2017. In addition to providing school uniforms, school supplies and transportation for each child, the ministry also provides medical and dental care for the children.
Our Education Coordinator is in touch with the children, which allows her to provide guidance for the families and needed resources when problems arise. The children’s grades and attendance at school are monitored on a regular basis to ensure that the children and their families are supporting the ministry’s efforts to help their children obtain an education.
The ministry has started eight tutoring programs in villages in the area. The tutoring centers provide the children with skills that will enable them to do well in school. The children are also exposed to educational and spiritual topics that will help them grow into productive citizens that value an education.
The children have to meet certain criteria to enter the Salt and Light Ministry Education Program. The students have to have an average of 80 or above to be admitted into the program and maintain an average of 70 or above to continue in the program. The families are also evaluated by the staff to ensure that they value an education for their children. The students are required to do volunteer work of different types during the year so they will learn the importance of helping others. The parents are required to attend regular meetings to discuss their child’s education.
The cost to sponsor a child in grades 1 – 6 is $25 per month or $300 per year and the cost of supporting a child in 7 – 12 is $35 per month or $420 per year.
