Who We Are

Our ministry in Honduras known as Ministerio Sal y Luz, is a Christian non-denominational organization which works to deliver the gospel of Jesus Christ by being the salt and the light of the world. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life for the people in the rural areas of Honduras.

Ministerio Sal y Luz began its work in January, 2002 and is legally incorporated in the country of Honduras.
From the central location in the Yojoa Lake area, we strive to improve the quality of life for the Honduran people. This is a region in desperate need of basic community infrastructure, public health initiatives, educational opportunities, medical and dental services, and economic development.

Ministry Sal y Luz works in partnership with the Salt and Light Ministry Foundation, based in Jackson, Mississippi which is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit foundation registered with the Secretary of State’s Office in Mississippi. An operation agreement rules this partnership and gives accountability, credibility and sustainability to both organizations.

Ministerio Sal y Luz and Salt and Light Ministry Foundation both consist of boards of directors from Christian and professional backgrounds whose support helps to carry out the vision of our ministry. The boards also legislate, govern and supervise the work of the ministry.

Our ministry was created to help families raise their standards of living through the dignity of providing for themselves economically, physically and spiritually. The programs of Salt and Light have been divided into six main components:

work in these six areas is made available to the local communities that we serve, with full support of our staff in Honduras, donors, and volunteers primarily from the United States. Each community that we serve in the lake area has a local committee that works with the staff to help determine the projects that will be accomplished in that village. In this way, we feel the ministry will grow and have long term sustainability.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
